Does New Media better or worse serve American public on election news?

Susan, writer and editorial, said “online news editorials and news broadcasting is breaking down, but not the traditionally Star Tribune newspapers”. Although, newspapers separates the news and editorials so that no opinions are express in the news.

In most news industry, the content of the news is shaped by a point of the news and how relevant that news maybe, as long as it does not convey false news to readers. Like on Fox 9 news, it is okay to shape the content as long as it is not masquerade.

According to these panelists, it had been estimated that by the year 2010, only 9% of the population will read the newspaper. Hence, the rate at which people use to read the news is steadily declining in our society.

Online Journalism:
Online Journalism is becoming eminently a problem because not much quality of news is appearing online. The reason is that unlike the traditional news where it goes through many process including editorial scrutiny before it is published, with online news, people just sit in their basement and write about President Bush and topics that interest them. Sometimes, the information are not properly edited and do carry range of false news.

Interesting, the media companies are more concerned in increasing viewer’s readership. One way they do that is by increasing entertainment on the media outlet, but this diminishes news. This is because most people pay more attention to entertainment subject than news. Thus, the focus of news gradually shifts from news to entertainment and that diminishes the focus on news.

Reporters complain:
One of the issues regarding quality reporting is that there is luck of appreciation for high quality reporting. In other words, most people fail to honor the hard work news reporters put into the quality of news.

Media ownership and news quality:
Media ownership is changing the news content. It used to be family owning a large media firm, but now is open to shareholders who are more interested in profiting than the news. Privatization of media firm is one of the downfalls of quality of news because the owners are in control of the kinds of news we get (media framing, and selective exposure). In other words, news industry only focuses on the content that profits the company. FCC is supposed to regulate news and information send to us, but it is sometimes limited to the capitalize ideology of profiting. So, unfortunately there is not much they can do break that gap.
